Can you drive on the beach at Perdido Key?
No. Driving on the beach is not permitted on Perdido Key's public beaches or the state and national park stretches — they protect nesting shorebirds, sea turtles, the dunes, and the endangered Perdido Key beach mouse. You park in designated lots or accesses and walk onto the sand.
Why it's not allowed
Perdido Key is critical habitat. Vehicles crush dune vegetation, nests, and the burrows of protected wildlife, so the public and park beaches are walk-on only. Obey all posted signs and stay off the dunes on foot, too.
Where to get on the sand instead
Use the designated parking at Perdido Key State Park, Johnson Beach (Gulf Islands National Seashore), and the public accesses — our beach access & parking guide shows where to park and walk on. (Permitted off-road beach driving in this region is limited to specific areas elsewhere, not Perdido Key proper.)
