Can you bring dogs to the beach in Perdido Key?
Dogs are restricted on most of Perdido Key's public Gulf beaches, including the state and national park stretches, so you can't simply bring a dog onto the main swimming beaches. There are dog-friendly alternatives in the area, and rules differ between the Florida and Alabama sides — always check the posted signs and current local ordinances, which change.
Why the rules are strict
The Gulf-front parks — Perdido Key State Park, the Gulf Islands National Seashore (Johnson Beach), and Gulf State Park — protect nesting shorebirds and sea turtles, so dogs are generally not allowed on those beaches. Many municipal beach accesses restrict them too, especially in season.
Where dogs can go
Look to dog parks, pet-friendly trails, and dog-welcoming patios rather than the main swimming beaches. Rules also vary by side of the state line and by season, and they do change year to year — so confirm with posted signage and the relevant county/city before you go.
