Perdido Key is clearly the quieter, less crowded of the two. It's lower-rise, has huge swaths of protected state park, and far less nightlife and traffic than Orange Beach, which is the busier hub for restaurants, charters and The Wharf. If avoiding crowds is the whole point, base yourself on Perdido Key.

A big chunk of Perdido Key is state park and preserve, so it can't fill up with development the way a resort strip does. Beaches feel emptier, parking is easier, and evenings are low-key — dinner at The Point or a drink at Flora-Bama, then quiet.
