Ole River Grill

FL Unclaimed
restaurant · The Flora-Bama Line · $$

On Ole River just over the state line. The grouper sandwich. The deck. The locals' answer to 'where do we eat that isn't tourist madness.'

Ole River Grill is on Ole River, the inland waterway just north of the Bama, on the Florida side of the line. The deck is the move. The grouper sandwich is the order. The crowd is more local-heavy than the Bama by orders of magnitude, which is exactly the point.

This is the dinner-not-on-the-Drive option for the Bama-line stretch. Park, walk down to the dock-side dining, order the simple thing, watch the boats come in. It is not trying to compete with anywhere. That’s its whole thing.

What to order

The grouper sandwich is the order — that’s the dish people cross the line for. Grilled or fried, it’s the move; everything else on the menu is supporting cast. A cold drink on the deck while you wait for it is the whole experience.

The deck

Ole River Grill sits on Ole River, the protected inland waterway just north of the Flora-Bama, so the water view here is calm bay-side, not Gulf surf. Dock-side dining means boats easing in and out the whole time you eat, and sunset over the river is the reason to time dinner for the evening.

When to go

Because the crowd skews local, Ole River doesn’t get the same tourist-crush waits as the beachfront spots — but in peak season the deck still fills, so an early or late table is the safe play. Boaters tie up here too, which adds to the wait on a pretty Saturday.

Getting there

It’s just over the Florida line from the Bama, off Perdido Key Drive on the river side. If you’re staying on the Perdido Key end, it’s the closest sit-down dinner that isn’t the Drive’s tourist madness.
