Pensacola Beach is a real drive from the Key β across town and over the bridges β so nobodyβs pretending itβs next door. But itβs the eastern bookend of the same beach culture, and two of its institutions are on our list for a reason.
The Sandshaker Lounge has anchored Pensacola Beach Boulevard since 1971 and holds the loudest claim to inventing the Bushwacker β the frozen argument-starter that half the bars on this coast now pour. Crabs β We Got βEm is the stilted building on Casino Beach that every visitor photographs and locals still actually eat at.
The scene centers on Casino Beach and its boardwalk, under the famous beach-ball water tower, with the Gulf pier stretching out front. And every July the Blue Angels β based at NAS Pensacola across the bay β fly their home beach show here, which is worth planning around (or bracing for, traffic-wise) depending on your temperament.
