About this camera
A Gulf-front camera on the Florida side of the line, run by ENCO Electronic Systems, looking out over the Perdido Key sand and the open Gulf. It's a good second angle when you want to check the water color, how the surf is stacking up, or how crowded the beach really is before you load the car. Third-party feed — it goes down when the source does. Our own camera a little farther along the same beach is the one we can vouch for around the clock.
Reading the Perdido Key view
- Which flag applies. Perdido Key is Escambia County, Florida — its flag is separate from Orange Beach's a few miles west, and the two don't always agree. Surface conditions on the cam say nothing about rip currents; see today's Perdido Key flag and conditions before you go in.
- What the Florida beach shows. Perdido Key's Gulf front is a mix of condo stretches and long runs of undeveloped state-park and national-seashore sand, so this side generally looks emptier on camera than the Alabama strip. Sunrise comes in from the left of a south-facing frame; midday glare is straight into the lens.
- If it goes dark. Third-party cams go down for weather, power, and maintenance on the source's schedule — not ours. Our own Perdido Key live cam a little farther along the same beach is the one we keep up around the clock.
