Pedro’s is the Mexican kitchen on Perdido Key Drive, a few doors from the Theo Baars Bridge, and it fills the gap every beach town has: somewhere to take a table of six who cannot agree on anything. Tacos, burritos, fajita platters, a long tequila list and frozen margaritas, in portions that make the check look better than it should.
The kitchen leans traditional rather than Tex-Mex-by-numbers. Chilaquiles with carne asada, pork carnitas, tamales, quesabirria — the dishes that tell you someone back there is cooking rather than assembling. The combination plates (Plato Pedro’s is six things on one plate) are the house’s answer to indecision.
What to order
The restaurant’s own site puts four dishes out front: Pedro’s Loco, Burrito California, quesabirria and nachos locos. If you want the full tour, Plato Pedro’s puts a chile relleno, a tostada, an enchilada, a taco, a burrito and a flauta on one plate for $16.99. Seafood chimichanga is the splurge at $17.99. Everything arrives with rice and beans, and cheese dip is extra on nearly all of it.
Practical notes
It is a sit-down room with a full bar, not a walk-up taco window, and it takes online orders through its own site for takeout. Parking is the shared lot out front, which fills on a Saturday evening in season.
