watersports · The Wharf

A 52-foot Hawaiian sailing catamaran out of The Wharf — the only sailboat in Orange Beach with a full-service bar aboard.

The Cetacean is a 52-foot Hawaiian-style sailing catamaran working out of The Wharf, and its claim to fame is refreshingly specific: it’s the only sailing vessel in Orange Beach with a full-service cocktail bar on board. Sails up, Caribbean music on, drink in hand — they know exactly what they’re selling, and they sell it well.

The trips

Dolphin sails run about an hour and a half, working the back bays where a resident pod of roughly 70 dolphins lives year-round — so sightings are the norm, not a lottery. Sunset sails stretch to two hours, and there’s a combined dolphin-and-nature sunset run. The crew skews education over schtick, and they’ll pull junior passengers in to help sail the boat, which tends to be the part kids report back on.

Good to know

There’s a sister boat, the Explorer — motorized, covered seating, bathroom aboard, and able to sneak into a couple feet of water, which gets you closer to the dolphins’ actual living room. Leaving from The Wharf means dinner and the Ferris wheel are a two-minute walk from the dock, so the sail slots neatly into an evening without a second drive.
