Luna’s sits on Canal Road in Orange Beach, sharing a building with BuzzCatz Coffee & Sweets, and bills itself as a Southern coastal kitchen and taphouse. That’s accurate for once: it’s the intersection of Gulf seafood and honest Southern cooking, and it’s the name that comes up when locals get asked where to eat on this side of town.
What to order
Shrimp and grits and the fried shrimp are the standards people keep coming back for, and the Nashville hot chicken has its own following. The gumbo runs lighter than most, and the sides are the tell that somebody in the kitchen grew up on this food — braised collards, smoked cheddar grits, fried okra, corn fritters, hot buttered cornbread. Deviled eggs and pimiento cheese to start, because this is the South.
The vibe
Family-friendly without being a kid factory. There’s a grassy courtyard out back with outdoor games, live music on the calendar, and 32 craft beers on tap — which is more taps than most places on the island bother with. It’s the rare spot that works equally well for a family dinner and a long afternoon with a beer.
