Panhandle Salt is a Gulf Coast surf-fishing guide service and retail shop offering guided land-based surf-fishing charters, with gear and local expertise provided. They also run fishing lessons, equipment rentals, and stay-and-fish vacation packages. The company founded the Gulf Coast Land Based Fishing Guide Association to unite and professionalize surf-fishing guides across the Florida Panhandle and Alabama. Based around Perdido Key and Pensacola, they fish from the sand — no boat, no seasickness, no marina.
What it is
Surf fishing is the low-barrier version of Gulf fishing: you stand on the beach, cast past the first sandbar, and wait on pompano, whiting, and whatever else is running the trough. The guided trips bring the rods, bait, and the reading of the water that takes most people years to learn. Lessons cover reading the beach, finding sand fleas for bait, casting, and safely handling what you land. If you’d rather go solo, the rental gear lets you fish from the beach in front of your rental without hauling rods on the plane.

Surf fishing is at the mercy of the water — a rough Gulf muddies the surf zone and shuts the bite down — so ask the guide what the forecast looks like before a trip. Its own site lists the rates (checked Oct 6, 2026): surf trips of up to 3.5 hours run $399 for one angler, $430 for up to four, $650 for up to eight and $975 for up to twelve.
