What to do on a double red flag day

Double red means the water is closed. Not the vacation — the Gulf. Re-check Beach Today (both sides of the line) and the live cam, then pick a backup that still feels like a beach trip.

First: believe the flag

Double red is for dangerous currents and surf — often after storms, when the Gulf looks deceptively pretty. Pretty is not safe. On the Florida side you are strongly expected to stay out. Morning pivots (still outside)

• Pool day — condo and resort pools ignore the Gulf flag. Claim chairs early.
• Bay / lagoon paddle — on calmer inland water when conditions allow. See paddleboard & kayak.
• Long beach walk only — sand is usually fine; keep feet out of the Gulf and kids on a short leash of attention.
• State parks & trails — boardwalks and shade when the water is a no. State parks.

Food that saves the mood

If you had a boat day planned
